Braces straighten your teeth for a smile you can be proud of

Do you wish your teeth were straighter? Crooked or crowded teeth are not just a cosmetic concern. They can make it harder to chew, talk and keep your teeth clean. Braces solve these problems while improving your smile.

Benefits of braces

People have been trying to straighten their teeth since ancient times, and modern braces remain one of the most reliable ways to do it. Benefits include:

  • Better dental health and easier cleaning
  • Being able to chew healthy foods comfortably
  • An improved appearance
  • More self-confidence
  • Less jaw and tooth pain caused by a poor bite

How your braces are fitted

Treatment starts with an exam, X-rays, a cleaning and a conversation about your goals. Some people need small spacers between their back teeth before the braces are placed.

At your fitting, your teeth are cleaned and conditioned, and any bands for your molars are cemented in place. Small brackets are bonded to your teeth and connected with an arch wire, held in place with small elastic ties. You then visit us regularly for adjustments as your teeth move.

Caring for your teeth with braces

Brush after meals and floss daily with a floss threader or water flosser. Avoid hard, sticky and chewy foods that can damage brackets, and keep your regular checkups and cleanings during treatment.

FAQ

Questions about Braces

How long do people usually wear braces?

Most people wear braces for about 18 to 24 months, depending on how much their teeth need to move.

Are adults too old for braces?

No. Teeth can be moved at any age as long as the teeth and gums are healthy. Many of our orthodontic patients are adults.

Do braces hurt?

You may feel some soreness for a few days after your braces are placed and after adjustments. Over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods help.
