Expert care for problem wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last molars to come in, usually between the ages of 17 and 25. Some people have enough room for them, but often there is not enough space. They may come in at an angle, stay trapped under the gum or only partly break through, which can cause pain and other problems. Your wisdom teeth consultation is free.

Signs your wisdom teeth may need attention

  • Pain or tenderness at the back of the mouth
  • Swollen, red or bleeding gums around a back tooth
  • Repeated infections or a bad taste in the mouth
  • Crowding or shifting of your other teeth
  • Cavities in back teeth that are hard to clean
  • Difficulty opening your mouth fully

Your consultation

We examine your mouth and take digital X-rays or 3D images to see the position of your wisdom teeth, their roots and the nearby nerves. Then we explain whether they should come out now, can be monitored, or can safely stay.

Comfortable removal

Wisdom teeth are removed in our dedicated surgical room. The area is fully numbed, and for anxious patients we offer sedation options, from nitrous oxide to oral and IV sedation and general anesthesia. Many patients remember little of the procedure.

Recovery tips

  • Rest for the first day and keep your head raised
  • Use a cold compress to reduce swelling
  • Eat cool, soft foods for a few days
  • Avoid straws, smoking and spitting, which can dislodge the healing blood clot
  • Rinse gently with warm salt water after the first 24 hours
  • Call us if you have heavy bleeding, increasing pain, swelling or fever
